Catherine's Annual Yuletide Service of Carols Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from performers including award-winning actors.

Focusing on Compassion and Love

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
