European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted figures that were at the heart of efforts to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives joined France in condemning the decision.
The restrictions were enacted on Tuesday on a former EU commissioner who helped draft the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as several anti-disinformation campaigners, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
