Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
