The Evolution of a Phenomenon can be marked by distinct phases.

1. The Big Idea

A dominant personality or figureheads propose an innovative concept pledging a solution for alienated and vulnerable people.

So here we are. Plans are in motion to confront the system in Australia. Pressure is mounting. Smoke is rising from the sidelines. 2. Initial Adoration

Team architects guarantee a new start, hope for a future, love, salvation within a community with shared faith in the philosophy.

What did it represent back then? Just men on a balcony basking in glory. Body art. Strength. Jawlines. Confident masculinity. Admittedly, The team will claim they don’t use the label, ironically since it’s not recognized, what exactly did I just watch?

However, everyone understands its essence. It’s the player attempting a move so outrageous it has to be pixelated. It’s the excitement of Ben Stokes in his final form, an expression conveying: pensive Nordic god, rugged appearance, untamed style, genuinely raw you almost imagine to notice and find him positioned at mid-off shirtless holding a fish.

It’s the batsman still being allowed addressing the media, out there looking like a happy little woodland creature in a waistcoat, expressing thoughts like we’re challenging norms. And yes, the atmosphere, initially, was entirely positive.

3. The Growth Phase

Growth phase. Togetherness strengthened via memorization of key phrases. These beliefs are often illogical to prove commitment.

Does anyone else feel? The criticism, the anger, the feeling of letdown post-defeat appears excessive, overdone. England batted badly on the field, as history shows. They were torn apart while bowling during a brief period as plans unraveled, manipulated by the opponent imitating their style effectively, adjusting to the pitch, a man playing with brilliance.

Currently, we see the pile-on, the anger, the view of the sport as a disgrace. The opinion suggests that losing isn’t enough, they need to lose righteously, to be purged, flame-throwered, defeated through sheer skill of the bowler’s action, the low-fi orthodoxies of the veteran, out there celebrating his wickets humbly similar to getting a rewarding prize. What will this do to them?

4. External Conflict

Issues emerge from failures in the plan. Yet, mistakes are denied. It begins to thrive on hostility externally.

The fact remains, a few days before from the second Test, we have now reached an intriguing moment in the journey of this approach. England could quite easily win overseas in a blur of adrenal disruption. Probably, defeat could come swiftly. In case of defeat it feels like we may see the decline.

Prior to that, there are two things to consider regarding this. Previously, back in those heady early days, of light and heat, I wrote an article calling it a phenomenon. People were very angry, which demonstrated as it’s known how to confirm lack of cult status is if supporters react defensively objecting to the questioning of its truths.

Recent events lately is just as interesting. Criticism of the approach has now become the cult. We have a uniformly angry internet, angry English pundits, shots of angry middle-aged supporters abroad cheated out of three days of cricket, similar to investors demanding recourse.

On the other hand, we have the wider backdrop of the opponent’s mixed ingrained annoyance at these weirdly passive-aggressive buccaneers, out there saying, your cherished traditions and have honed as one way of separating yourself from the opposition, well, it’s all a bit of a gag in the end old boy.

And this is the real point. Everything is a cult. The style was a trend because cricket is a cult. Or at least, the team has long been exclusive, a clique, an elite gathering, a closed world with centuries of tradition and mystery behind it. This has always been where entry is limited. It’s the British pastime of the British, the pioneering brand. And notably, the country is a phenomenon, a structure of hidden ranks, a place that literally still has a king.

The team have been sealed up in this system since childhood. In trying to escape from it, to create a less brutal environment, they are simply replicating their past, building another enclosure, a limited community, but doing it this time with a new team and a coach encouraging individuality as long as yourself is quite a lot like myself.

Live where your feet are. Run towards the danger. Despite efforts, things stay similar.
